One of the best kept secrets in the area, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is full of archaeological remains and lush nature. This tour starts with a visit to the little-known archaeological site of Muyil: an ancient Mayan city with a history spanning 18 centuries. A walk on the site leads gradually into the jungle, where it is possible to surprise the local inhabitants—spider monkeys, coatis, agoutis, various birds, etc.
An observation tower rising above the canopy offers a stunning view of the biosphere and of what lies ahead: the boat crossing of Muyil and Chunyaxche lagoons, as well as the channels that link these to the Caribbean Sea a few kilometers away.
The journey ends with a relaxing float down the mild currents of this mythical channel once frequented by the ancient Mayans.
